My first Suikan

For the past few months, I have been working with a seamstress from http://www.sewsmooth.net/ to create my very own Suikan (すいかん), based off an image from one of my all-time favorite books, 素晴らしい装束の世界―いまに生きる千年のファッション. The color combinations were selected specifically, this image found within the book.

Sophie has been kind enough to share with me, some of the process photos. I can’t wait to see them in person and hope you enjoy the quick snapshot. All photos are taken by Sophie and the sewing skills are hers alone. I just selected the fabric colors and vendor.

There is still the cord at the sleeves to be completed and I have been considering sewing or screening on a pattern as well. Specifically, the cherry blossom pattern found on this garment here. I am unsure if I want to attempt the pattern on the pants. Only time will tell!
